Yesterday, we gathered with community members and elected officials to celebrate Tripoli being listed on the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry!
Thank you to State Senator Andrew Gounardes and the Atlantic Ave Business Improvement District for making this happen. We are honored to be a part of the historic registry.
We also thank Senator Andrew Gounardes for nominating Tripoli to the registry, and for attendance and support from Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, Councilmember Shahana Hanif, NYC Department of Small Business Services, The Brooklyn Heights Association, The Historic Districts Council, and the Cadman Park Conservancy.

We thank Senator Andrew Gounardes for nominating Tripoli to the registry. We enjoyed delicious Lebanese food from Tripoli, words from our elected officials, and spent time with Tripoli’s owners, Mohammad, Omar and Nick.
At a time when many businesses face new and unique challenges, this registry allows us to recognize and honor historic businesses, while providing educational and promotional assistance to ensure their continued viability and success.
Nominations to the registry must be sponsored by an elected state official, including the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and members of the Senate or Assembly. Previously, Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon nominated Sahadi’s to the registry in 2023. Tripoli is the second historic Atlantic Avenue business to be listed.
We celebrated with great food and great company.

Officially, Tripoli was listed in Historic Business Preservation Registry on June 1, 2024. The event on March 14, 2025 cements this business nomination and makes it official! The Registry was established by Chapter 241 of the Laws of 2020 and enhanced by Chapter 146 of the Laws of 2023 to honor and recognize historic businesses throughout the state. Nominations must be submitted by a state elected official. This nomination places us among more than 120 businesses included in the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry.

A web page for the program is now included on the State Parks site. The page features an interactive map with photos and information about all the businesses on the registry, now including Tripoli Restaurant in this registry.
We hope to continue serving the community for another 53 years and beyond. We are glad to be a part of the community and help shape the state’s cultural identity. We will continue to contribute to New York’s economic and cultural heritage!
