A few years ago, a friend of mine shared with me a recipe for an all natural homemade cough syrup. He told me that his wife found it online. The other day I wanted to share the link with someone however I could not find it online so I thought I would do a new post for others to find, as it truly is an amazing! We have been using it in my family for several years, whenever someone comes down with a cold. Usually within 2 days the cough is gone. Did you ever think you would turn to an onion to fight the flu? Or how about a cold? I never thought I would either.
Onion Health Benefits
One of the ingredients is onion. Onions are known to be super high in flavonoids and antioxidants. These have shown to lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease, thin the blood and ward off blood clots. They are also good for asthma, chronic bronchitis, diabetes and other infections.
Another thing to note is onion absorb everything, they have incredible absorbing properties. Place onions in living space to clear bacteria, (do not eat those onions). Always consume fresh onions, otherwise you will ingest what the onion absorbed.
Cough, cold and asthma is often treated with a good serving of onions as it is known to decrease bronchial spasms. Onion juice with honey helps cure bronchitis and influenza.
Raw Honey Health Benefits
Honey is more than just a sweetener, it has been used for centuries for healing and rejuvenation. Most of the honey sold in stores has been heated and pasteurized. This processing destroys many of the enzymes and beneficial compounds that make raw honey so nutritious. Regular honey often looks clear and syrupy, raw honey has not been treated with heat; it is often more buttery, solid and opaque. And often contain small pieces of beeswax. It contains pollen, enzymes, antioxidants and many other beneficial. Local honey obtained as close as possible to where you live may help build an immunity to some seasonal allergies. Honey made by bees in the vicinity of the allergenic plant will contain tiny amounts of pollen from that plant. This honey will act as a sort of vaccine if taken in small amounts. Honey has also been found to be specially useful in treating upper respiratory infections.
As always you should check with your doctor before using it for younger children.
